Some quilts come with a deadline, and this quilt came with a retreat!!

Becky brought me this block of the month quilt to help out her sister Mary. Becky and Mary are part of a group of friends that do a block of the month quilt together every year, and it’s their favorite tradition!! The group does a fun retreat each year in the summer to finish up their projects! Isn’t that a fun idea??

The colors in this quilt are phenomenal!! Coral, aqua, spring green, soft peach, and taupe, anchored with charcoal and framed by a big floral border– perfection!! Each block is a different star, and the fabric choices tie them all together beautifully!! I’m obsessed!! I’ve never done a block of the month myself, but this quilt would definitely convince me to try one! Have you done a block of the month quilt?
For the quilting, we used a light cream thread and “Ragtime Flowers” by Patricia E. Ritter, one of my most popular designs. The rounded curls and flowers are a perfect match for all the solid, straight lines of the piecing. They soften the star points without hiding them, and the cream thread lets the colors stay the star of the show.

I hope you all had a wonderful retreat, and I can’t wait to see what your group makes next year!
