Every quilt that comes through my door has a story, and this one has a soundtrack!!!
Anne brought me this quilt top she made for her grandson’s birthday. She started with a music-themed guitar panel and built it out with added borders. The blues, browns, golds, and creams all play together beautifully.
Since the whole quilt involved music, Anne wanted the quilting reflect that as well. She chose “Austin” by Melonie J. Caldwell, a design with guitars flowing across the quilt. We talked through options with music notes too, but Anne felt the guitars were the perfect fit, and I agree. For thread, we went with a darker cream so the quilting would show on the lighter fabrics while still settling softly into the blues and browns.

My favorite part? How well the quilted guitars matched the guitars in the panel. They blend right into the quilt and complete it without ever stealing the show. That’s exactly what I love about quilting: finding the design that makes the fabric shine.
Anne, thank you for trusting me with such a special gift. I hope your grandson loves it for years to come!
